Karl Lagerfeld by Jean-Baptiste Mondino

Social sense seems to be a theme throughout the stimulus. One of the main characters (the toxic one) is shown to be uptight with the social norms of living a luxurious life. Due to this, she has an argument with her “friend”, who likes to “live for fun”. There was also a scene where there was a party with loud music, and the toxic lady hated that. The black and white overlay implies that the social norms of having this luxurious life is meant to be similar to the norms of the older days. There were a lot more formal dresses back in the day, which is what the toxic lady likes to wear. Whereas the people in the present day wore casual clothes.

The images seem to be casual and ordinary. We see the people in these images interacting with the environment around them. In the Wizard of Oz image, when the father is scolding his son he uses a pipe and points it at a wall, which shows some form of expressive action, as if the father is raising his voice while aggressively waving his hand. THe pipe is also used to further put emphasis on the masculine norms, which is something his child is not really doing. The father could be showing the son the pipe, as if signifying that the son should act more masculine.
